Mr. Dawes, I’m a teacher and live in Brazil. I have just read your essay and found extremely useful and full of, say, concrete possibilities the way you consider the ‘self’, especially by making, again, a concrete, I’d say living, relationship between language, behavior, thinking and our experiences. I feel really motivated to go deeper into the insights presented and try them out in my interaction with people and situations.
Hi Admario,
Thanks for your comments. I am encouraged when someone makes the effort to apply gs. principles to their life situations.
Are you a member of “The Institute of General Semantics”? Do you have anyone, (or is there any group involved with general semantics) you can share your ideas with? (I remember when I first read “Science and Sanity” I had no one to converse with about this system.)
Please let me know: How did you get to know about general semantics? Do you teach or make references to gs. in your classes? Maybe you can contribute something to “The Institute’s Newsletter “Time-Bindings”", or the quarterly magazine “ETC”: (BTW. The article will be published in the next issue of ETC: Do you get copies?)
You may consider writing to Carmen Clarke at or Carmen started a list some years ago. On this list members share some of their general semantics experiences and insights.
If you have any questions related to other articles you have read on the site, Please feel free to contact me with questions and comments or post them on the site.
